iPhone 14 has finally been announced and if you're trying to decide between
For the iPhone 14s and the iPhone 14 pros. Here are the 10 most differences, to help you make up your mind.
Number 1:
The dynamic island is actually the biggest difference between the 14s and
the 14 pros the 14 and the 14 plus only have the notch so same as before
but the 14 pros and the 14 pro max. They have that pill this whole cutout
but it now works in a really awesome way software wise and this is what the
the dynamic island really is. It's essentially an area that automatically adapts based on what you're doing so you can see the uber delivery can see your phone calls you can see your voice recordings and just a ton of status updates so think of this as sort of like a secondary status bar which is smarter and way more fun to use. it looks great and it seems to be very fluid honestly. This is one of my favorite features if not my favorite feature of the new iPhone 14 pros.
Number 2:
we have the camera hardware and there are a ton of differences here the
iPhone 14 pros get a brand new 48-megapixel sensor with pixel binning
compared to a 12-megapixel sensor which is actually the same one as the iPhone 13 pros Apple claims that the iPhone 14 pros now have twice the low light performance compared to the 13 pros and therefore the 14 models as well not only that but the ultrawide module is also three times better in low.
So that's a huge upgrade and on top of that, we also have a telephoto module which the f14s do not have at all so you get 3x optical zoom, and then on top of that, we also have a brand new 2x digital zoom which is essentially sensor cropping on that 48-megapixel sensor and the quality out of that seems to actually be really good thanks to that impressive level of resolution that we have on the pro models the flash is also twice as bright on the pro models and then you also have that lighter module which allows you to scan objects in.
Number 3:
and also improves the ar experience but it's not just the camera hardware that
is significantly better on the pro models it is also the camera features so
the pro models offer a macro mode which surprisingly the non-pros do not have at all and then you can also do night mode portraits thanks to that lighter sensor you can also shoot photos in raw thanks to apple's program and you can also shoot them at up to 48-megapixel resolution normal photos are taken at 12 by the way bins but then you can use 48 when you're shooting in raw you can also shoot prores 4k30 on the pro models compared to no prores at all which is awesome you get extra quality out of that but major warning uh they do take a ton of space and because of the slow speeds of lightning I never really used it because it takes forever to transfer.
Number 4:
the big difference is when it comes to the display brightness so when you're normally using the phones the 14s have 800 nits of maximum brightness compared to 1000 on the 14 pros so this is a manual brightness and automatic brightness indoors now when you're watching hdr content the 14s can do up to 1200 while the 14 pros can do up to 1600. this actually matches the displays on the new uh retina XDR display inside the new MacBook pros 12.9 inch Ipad pro and apple's pro display xdr so that's really impressive but then on top of that, the pro models also have an outdoor display mode which
automatically increases the brightness to 2 000 nits compared to 800 on the non-pro models now obviously this is a gigantic difference and this is the brightest display on any smartphone out right now so if you use your phones outdoors in direct sunlight a lot then the pro models will be more than twice as bright than the regular ones and more about the iPhone 14s.
Number 5:
we have the always-on display functionality which is only on the pro
models so when your phone goes to sleep the lock screen
will still be visible it will be dimmed rather than being an entirely different screen like on android phones and it will also be displayed in colors rather than black and white so you'll be able to see widgets and live activities those will always be visible although apple hasn't really said anything about notifications if those will be visible or not this is one of those features
Number 6:
we have a promotion on the pro models this has been the case with the iPhone 13s as well where the display is twice as fluid on top of this year the refresh rate can go down to one hertz instead of 10 hertz which is what we had on the iPhone 13 pros. performance as this is the
Number 7:
iPhone 14 and the 14 plus still come with the apple a15 chips same as last year however this time they come with uh the 5 gpu core model that was included in the iPhone 13 pros so you do get a tiny bit of extra speed bump thanks to this gpu wise we didn't really have any leaks on this but this was what I believe to be the case and I'm happy that apple has actually done this in the end and on the 14 pros we have the true apple a16 chip which now uses a smaller four-nanometer manufacturing process.
Number 8:
compared to five we also have a bit higher performance in the high-performance cores and they're also 20 more power efficient and the GPU has 50 more bandwidth but that's pretty much it the performance increased from the a15 to day 16 is really small as apple hasn't really given us any exact numbers some geekbench scores have actually been leaked and they do show very minimal gains but somewhere where we do get gains are in terms of the battery life so the pro models do offer better battery life than the non-pros so the regular 14 offers 20 hours of video playback compared to 23 on the 14 pro and the 14 plus offers 26 and the 14 pro max offers 29.
Number 9:
the big difference is when it comes to the design and the build quality so I have to mention here that the pro models are significantly heavier because of that stainless steel frame compared to the aluminum frame that the non-pro models use so the
14 pro is 34 grams heavier than the 14 and the
14 pro max is 37 grams heavier than the 14 plus in fact the
14 pro is 3 grams heavier than the 14 plus so
if you just want to have a lighter phone then definitely do go with the standard
models couple more differences in terms of the colors so we have a new space black and a darker purple which are only available on the pro models
and then on the nonpros, we have a new light purple a new blue and it seems
like we also have a new shade of red which again are only available on the
regular models.
last big difference
is of course when it comes to the price so in us the prices are the same as before starting from 7.99 all the way up to 10.99 for the 14 pro max however in the UK and other places the prices have been increased quite considerably so the 14 costs 8.49 up from 7.79 the 14 plus is 9.49 the 14 pro is 1099 up from 949 and the 14 pro max is 11.99 from 10.49 is a huge increase and contrary to what the leaks and rumors were saying we do not
get 256 gigabytes of storage as the base model on the pro model so if you need more storage uh in pretty much all cases you will need 256 you will need to upgrade uh and pay even more for the pro models so these are the
